Fall Leaf Cleanup Campaign

Have you noticed the Love Your Lakes, Don’t Leaf Them yard signs on the terraces of commuter streets in the Wingra Watershed in the month of October? Fall 2007 marks the fourth year of our fall leaf cleanup campaign where we remind everyone to keep leaves out of the streets and storm drains and out of Lake Wingra.

During the course of the first three years of the campaign (2004-2006), volunteers dropped a Love Your Lakes, Don’t Leaf Them brochure on almost every doorstep in the Lake Wingra watershed. In 2006, we’re reposting the yard signs and making the brochure available through the internet, pizza box deliveries, coffee shops, and libraries.

The “Love Your Lakes, Don’t Leaf Them” campaign, was first introduced in 2004 by Friends of Lake Wingra, Friends of Monona Bay, and Friends of Starkweather Creek with assistance from the Madison Advertising Federation and the City of Madison. In 2005, the Madison Area Municipal Storm Water Partnership joined the campaign to start to spread the word throughout Dane County and protect all of our lakes and streams
